PGT Sliding & Patio Doors: The Dallas Owner’s Guide
If your PGT sliding or patio door is dragging, jamming, or letting daylight through a busted roller track, we stock and install PGT-compatible rollers, handles, locks, and weatherstripping right here in Dallas. Most sliding door hardware replacements run $185 – $420 installed depending on whether we’re swapping a single roller assembly or rebuilding the full track and lock set. You’ll usually notice it first as a door that suddenly takes two hands to move, or a latch that won’t catch without lifting the panel. We keep the most common PGT parts on the truck, and Owen Satterfield’s crew can typically match your part on the first visit.
One thing to know up front: Westlight Windows Dallas is an independent service provider, not affiliated with PGT. That works in your favor, though, because we carry PGT-compatible hardware alongside parts for CGI, CWS, and ES Windows, which means we’re matching the part to your door rather than pushing whatever one manufacturer’s catalog happens to have in stock.
Which PGT Models This Applies To
PGT builds sliding doors across several lines you’ll see throughout Dallas: the 7700 series, the 3750/3751 series, and the WinGuard aluminum frames that show up on a lot of newer builds in Frisco and Plano. The hardware isn’t universal across those lines, and that’s where homeowners get burned ordering parts online. A roller assembly made for a 7700 will not seat correctly in a WinGuard track. The carriage depth matters. The wheel diameter matters. If you order the wrong one, you’ll get a door that rolls hard for a month and then snaps the new roller.
To identify what you’ve got, look for the PGT etching on the corner of the glass, usually on the interior side of the fixed panel. Note the frame material too. Aluminum frames take one roller profile; the heavier vinyl frames take another. If there’s no etching left, we can match the part by pulling the existing hardware and measuring the roller housing against the PGT spec book we keep in the truck. For older doors, especially in homes around Lakewood and White Rock Lake built before PGT standardized their hardware, we may recommend a quality aftermarket roller from a supplier like Prime-Line or Slide-Co rather than trying to hunt down a discontinued OEM part. On handles and locks, OEM makes more sense because the screw patterns and strike plates are unforgiving. We’ll give you an honest read on which path costs less without giving up durability.
Signs Your PGT Sliding & Patio Doors Is Failing
Here’s what we see on service calls all over Dallas, with the cause behind each symptom:
- The door grabs or skips when you slide it. That’s usually a roller wheel that’s worn flat on one side. The bearing inside grinds against the track and the panel rides rough until the wheel finally seizes entirely.
- You have to lift the door to get it to latch. The rollers have sagged or the adjustment screws have backed out. Over time the panel settles low enough that the latch hook misses the strike plate, which also starts wearing the lock mechanism itself.
- A draft or dust line forms along the bottom track. The weatherstripping has compressed or torn. Dallas dust is relentless on patio door sweeps. Once the seal fails, you’ll feel the heat up against the glass in August and see the grime collecting in the track within a few weeks.
- The handle turns but the lock won’t throw. The interior lock linkage is bent or the tailpiece has rounded off. This happens faster on PGT aluminum doors because the thin metal internal link fatigues after years of hard pulls.
- The door slides open on its own. That’s a track out of level, typically from foundation movement. Houses on Dallas clay shift constantly, and a sliding door is often the first thing to show it. The fix is a re-level and roller adjustment, not just new parts.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s the straight pricing picture for Dallas:
- Roller replacement (both panels): $185 – $280 installed
- Handle and lock set, PGT-compatible: $140 – $230 installed
- Weatherstripping and track seal replacement: $90 – $170 installed
- Full hardware overhaul (rollers, handle, lock, seals, track clean and re-level): $380 – $420 installed
What moves the price is the door width. A three-panel PGT slider takes longer to pull and reset than a two-panel, and the parts themselves cost more on the wider stiles. We will give you a written price before any work starts, and that price does not change at the door. Every hardware replacement we install carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the new part fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No re-quoting, no arguing about whose fault it is.
DIY or Call Us?
Sliding door hardware is not a high-tension job like a torsion spring, but it’s also not a five-minute swap if you’ve never done it. You can safely check a few things yourself: clear the track of grit with a brush, tighten visible adjustment screws on the roller housings, and confirm the door panel hasn’t come off its track. Where DIY goes wrong is pulling the panel without knowing how to release the anti-lift clips and then getting a 150-pound glass panel out of square. That’s how fingers get pinched and glass gets cracked. If the rollers are worn, there’s no safe way to replace them without pulling the panel and setting it on a padded surface, and honestly, the labor is the cheap part compared to a broken PGT panel. If you’re in Dallas and the door’s fighting you, call (361) 441-0865 and we’ll come take a look. We’ll tell you if it’s a thirty-minute fix or a full overhaul before you spend a dollar.
FAQs
In our experience, PGT sliding door rollers last 8 to 12 years in Dallas before the bearings start failing, with houses on shifting clay soil eating them faster due to the track going out of level. If your door is dragging at the ten-year mark, the rollers are likely done. Call (361) 441-0865 and we’ll confirm it in a visit.
Sometimes yes, if the issue is debris in the track or an adjustment screw that’s backed out, but once a roller wheel is worn flat or a latch tailpiece has rounded off, the part is done and cleaning won’t bring it back. We’ll tell you which bucket your door falls into. Estimates are free at (361) 441-0865.
A simple roller and seal swap on a two-panel PGT door usually takes 45 minutes to an hour. If we’re re-leveling the track and replacing the full lock set, plan on closer to two hours. We’ll give you an arrival window, and we show up in it.
We stock the most common PGT-compatible rollers, handles, and weatherstripping for the 7700 and WinGuard frames on our service trucks, so most jobs are done on the first visit. Unusual sizes or discontinued hardware may require a few days to source. A quick call to (361) 441-0865 will let us know what you’ve got before we head over.
